Last Reflection

Esmeralda Santa English 21003, Section M Professor Matyakubova 6 December 2017 Final Reflection Final Thoughts I titled my blog “Road to Enlightenment” because it shows how at the start of the semester my writing lacked many concepts, but as the semester passed, I started to include more course learning objectives. My lack of clear writing concepts is visible in the first writing assignment I wrote, the memorandum. Besides the memorandum having a lot of grammar mistakes, it also did not contain a strong stance or a clear analysis. In the next assignment, the Informative report, I made a little progress. This time I wrote a thesis that was clear and provided a lot of sources. This assignment required research, so I used the online database such as JSTOR and incorporated articles I found online into my writing. Writing the Argumentative report also proved vital to my progress as a writer. In this...

Reflection To Final Research Paper

Esmeralda Santa English 21003, Section M Professor Matyakubova 29 November 2017 Reflection on Final                                                                             Reflection             Out of all the papers we wrote this semester I have to say that the most difficult was this final  research paper. It was difficult because there were a lot of sources that needed to be incorporated and  they were different kind of sources. In my research paper I had the most difficulty finding a video  that would be able to support my claims. Another issue I ran into was thoroughly comparing two  sources and having a conversation between the two. For this reason I tried to synthesis my  counterclaim and compare two so...

Final Research Paper HIV/AIDS

Image
Esmeralda Santa English 21003, Section M Professor Matyakubova 28 November 2017 Final Research Paper                                               Deadliest Epidemic in Modern History Abstract       To this day HIV/AIDS is still incurable and it has lead countless of people to their deathbed. The number of deaths reported each year by the United Nations keep reaching new peaks and it is unacceptable that the government is not taking the necessary steps to stop the disease from spreading. The government is spending big bucks on other kind of causes such as education or space exploration, but when it comes to HIV/AIDS prevention the funds provided has been minimal. Due to the government's lack of action, this paper will discuss the importance of the government needing to provide funds and how HIV/AIDS is affecting people. Also the solutions the g...

Journal #9

Esmeralda Santa Ms. Nargiza Matyakuboya English 21003, Section M 20 November 2017 Journal Entry #9                                                 Six Myths About Choosing a College Major           An interesting New York Times article I read was called “Six Myths About Choosing a  College Major”. This article opened my eyes to the big mistakes many upcoming college students or  undergraduate students are making when it comes to choosing their major. Also the article discusses  the myths that many upcoming upcoming college students believe as they are about to enter school.  The myth that surprised me the most  was “choice of major matters more than choice of  college”( nytimes.com ). This myth can be related to myself because I also focused more on choosing  my major than ...

Reflection Draft #2

Esmeralda Santa English 21003, Section M Professor Matyakubova 13 November 2017  Reflection to 2nd DRAFT                                                                                Reflection          The second draft of my research paper is more of an improvement than my first draft. In my  first draft I lacked claims to support my thesis. For this reason in my second draft I added another  claim that contained evidence. In this claim I talked about the economic impact HIV/AIDS has on  humans. I included evidence that came from journals and also government reports such as the United  Nations website. Afterwards, I analyzed his evidence and tried to prove that HIV/AIDS is a financial  burden. Besides ...

Draft #2 of Research

Esmeralda Santa English 21003, Section M Professor Matyakubova 8 November 2017 Second Draft on Research Paper                                                                                                          Deadliest Epidemic in Modern History           In 2016, 1 million people died from AIDS-related illnesses worldwide and a reported 36.7  million people were living with HIV ( unaids.com ). Since it was first clinically discovered in 1981  this  deadly disease has spread all over the world, affecting all types of people. Human  immunodeficiency virus infection (HIV) occurs in four stages, the deadliest last stage being acquired  immune d...

Reflection To Interview

Esmeralda Santa English 21003, Section M Professor Matyakubova 13 November 2017  Reflection to Interview                                                                            My Reflection           The interview was a new experience for me because I never before interviewed an expert, for a  paper I was writing. The interview was a success because I was able to find out new information on  my topic of how HIV/AIDS has impacted mankind. I decided to interview a teacher that I knew had  been affected by the disease and allow her to tell me her story. Later on I decided that I would use  the response in my research as part of the section of how HIV/AIDS affects a person. This interview  will also serve as an ap...

Interview

Esmeralda Santa English 21003, Section M Professor Matyakubova 4 November 2017 Interview                                              Interview: Deadliest Epidemic in Modern History Introduction       In my research paper I will discuss the impact HIV/AIDS has had on the world and do research on specific aspects such as an individual impact, economic impact, media, and religious impact. For this interview I interviewed my global high school teacher because she was affected by HIV when she was younger. She came from a poor country and the disease did not only impact her financially but also personally. This interview will be used as an appeal to pathos because it will show how tragically one can be affected by a disease. Question 1: How old were you when your mother was diagnosed with HIV?     I was 16 when my mom was diagnos...

Journal #8

Esmeralda Santa Ms. Nargiza Matyakuboya English 21003, Section M 3 November 2017 Journal Entry #8                                                                     A Life Worth Living          The film and news report, “Front of the class” and “The Good Doctors” shared the stories of  extraordinary people who were able to over big obstacles. In the film, Brad Cohen faced a similar  situation to what Dr. Chris McCulloh had to face in “The Good Doctors”. First, Both Brad Cohen  and Dr. McCulloh did not allow their disability to take over their lives, instead they looked for  solutions in order to pursue what they love. Even though Brad Cohen had Tourette syndrome this did  not stop him from becoming a teacher. He looked for a solution, wh...

Reflection to Draft #1 of Research Paper

Esmeralda Santa English 21003, Section M Professor Matyakubova 4 November 2017 Reflection on First Draft of Research Paper                                                                         Research Draft          In my first research draft I used different course learning objectives in order to write a good  first draft. First, I used different databases to find more sources that would enhance my paper. I used  JSTOR, Google scholar, and MEDLINE. These databases helped me find sources that contained  information on variety of topics such as HIV/AIDS economic impact on developing countries and  current solution to the epidemic. Also to better understand what HIV/AIDS was, I went to the CCNY  library to find a book on the to...

Draft #1 Research Paper

Esmeralda Santa English 21003, Section M Professor Matyakubova 1 November 2017 First Draft on Research Paper                                                                A Disease Ripping Nations Apart         In 2016, 1 million people died from AIDS-related illnesses worldwide and a reported 36.7  million people were living with HIV ( unaids.com ). Since it was first clinically discovered in 1981  this  deadly disease has spread all over the world, affecting all types of people. Human  immunodeficiency virus infection (HIV) occurs in four stages, the deadliest last stage being acquired  immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). HIV is known as a silent killer because often times a person  might not know they have the disease until they are far into the...

Journal #7

Esmeralda Santa Ms. Nargiza Matyakuboya English 21003, Section M 30 October 2017 Journal Entry #7                                                                What makes a good educator?               “Front of the class” was a very inspirational and beautiful film. The film brought back the  importance of what it means to be an educator and who can be considered an educator. An educator  does not only have to be a teacher, but can be anyone who teaches someone some kind of value. To  be considered an educator you have to be doing it because you want to make a difference and not just  for the money. In the film, Mr. Cohen proves many times how much it means for him to become a  teacher. Even when many people do not believe in him, suc...

Reflection To Annotated Bibliography

Esmeralda Santa  English 21003, Section M  Professor Matyakubova  26 October 2017  Reflection on Annotated Bibliography                                                                                                                                             Reflection           The annotated bibliography has helped me accomplish many course objects and will also aid  in writing a good research report. First of all, I was able to analyze more in depth the kind of sources  I was using and how I was going to use them. I found news articles, magazine articles...

Annotated Bibliography

Esmeralda Santa English 21003, Section M Professor Matyakubova 25 October 2017 Annotated Bibliography                                            The Epidemic of HIV/AIDS Across the World Thesis : Since it was first discovered, HIV/AIDS has left a lasting turmoil upon mankind. This disease has not only affected the people’s health, but has left a hole in their pocket, labeled them as outcasts in society, and forced them to receive backlash from media and religious places. Cosgrove, Ben. "The Photo That Changed the Face of AIDS". TIME. Nov. 2014. TIME Web. 25 October 2017.     The famous picture of activist David Kirby - laying in his death bed, while AIDS was taking over his body – has become a symbol in both the LGBT and HIV/AIDS community. The picture also has stirred a lot of controversy, some people argue that it was a form of exploitation in o...

Journal #6

Esmeralda Santa English 21003, Section M Professor  Matyakubova 18 September 2017 Journal #6                                                            A Second Chance for the Convicted             In both Michelle Jonas and Stanley Andrisse cases, they face difficulties continuing their  education after they are released from prison. The difficulties they face are unfair and unjust for a set  of people who want to change their lives for the better. The criminal justice system needs to help  people like them because they proved themselves to want to do better and actually make a  contribution to society. The system should help them by providing career programs in the prison, so  they can be well prepared once they leave the prison. Besides thi...

Reflection to Research Propsal

Esmeralda Santa English 21003, Section M Professor Matyakubova 16 October 2017 Reflection on Research Proposal                                                                Proposal Reflection             Writing the research proposal helped me in many ways and I also adapted many skills that  were used to create it. First I formatted a thesis, but it was in a form of a question. My thesis is what  my essay would be about. Then, when it came to doing research for the proposal I had to look for  different types of evidence to support my sources. In this phase of my report, I looked at different  databases and determined that JSTOR was the best database to use because it contained a lot of  journal articles that were related to HIV/AIDS. Beside...
