A Life Worth Living
The film and news report, “Front of the class” and “The Good Doctors” shared the stories of
extraordinary people who were able to over big obstacles. In the film, Brad Cohen faced a similar
situation to what Dr. Chris McCulloh had to face in “The Good Doctors”. First, Both Brad Cohen
and Dr. McCulloh did not allow their disability to take over their lives, instead they looked for
solutions in order to pursue what they love. Even though Brad Cohen had Tourette syndrome this did
not stop him from becoming a teacher. He looked for a solution, which was to educate his students
and other adults on Tourette syndrome. Dr.McCulloh also took a similar approach to his situation. At
first, he has a tough time continuing his goal of becoming a doctor because he is paralyzed, but he
finds a solution to his problem. His solution is finding a chair that allows him to stand up and
perform surgeries. In both situations, Brad Cohen and Dr. McCulloh looked past their disability and
worked hard.
Another similarity between the lives of Brad Cohen and Dr. McCulloh was their ability to
prove people wrong. Brad Cohen had many people, like his father tell him that he would never
become a teacher because of his condition, but in the end he comes out on top. He is able to get a job
as a teacher and educate children for a living. Dr. McCulloh also proves many people wrong along
his journey. First, he proves the rehab people wrong when they believed that he would never walk
again. Not only can he walk, but works in a hospital and did not listen to the people who told him his
career was over before it started. Brad Cohen and Dr. McCulloh had a lot of criticizers. Thus, they
chose to push all those people aside and in the end they were able to achieve success.
